Hi everyone, I'm Michele.
When Don first started talking to me about starting actionchurch at Fat Daddy's Nightclub, I admit that my first reaction was not very "pastor's wife-ish". As a matter of fact, it had a few "bleepable" words, followed by fear and panic. I was appalled at the idea! How dare he expect me to take our precious daughter to a nightclub to learn about Jesus. I really thought that the stress of running his company and being fired from the church we served at had caught up with him. I just knew he was "losing it"!
Over the next several week I began a pro/con list to build my case for Don about why we should not do this. I just had to convince my insane spouse that this was a very bad idea. I listed many items in my "Con" column. Then God started messing with my heart. He ever so gently reminded me of my not so perfect past. He asked me when, in my search to become a "better Christian", I had lost my compassion and become judgemental and less forgiving. He asked me to reread Phil 2:4 "Let each of you look not only for his own interest but also for the interests of others."
When I finished my "list", only one word stood in the "Pro" column. It was the same word printed on a coin I received months ago from the church we attend LCBC. The word was "OTHERS". I realized that that was the only "pro" I needed. I don't want to just read my Bible...I actually want to Live it! I am a now a certified-Church-at-Fat-Daddy's-Fan! I want OTHERS to feel loved by God, comfortable in their environment, and accepted by all of us at actionchurch.
Now that I think about it, I can't think of a better way to teach our daughter about Jesus than to take her to a Nightclub every Sunday morning!
