Parable of Harley Davidson

Imagine that someone at Harley would offer you a job... Those of you who live in York County know it's almost impossible to "get in" to Harley without being related to someone or some other connection . You have nothing on your resume that makes you "qualified" to build Harleys...the job is truly a gift. Truthfully, you can't even remember "applying"...but here is someone offering you a career, a new lifestyle, even a great retirement. What an amazing free gift!

Now imagine that the plant manager calls and asks you to start work immediately. Would you:

1. Tell him that you have"no interest in actually "working" at Harley...you just took the job for the great retirement plan...." How do you think that will turn out?

2. Tell him that you have " no interest in actually "working" at Harley...but you do love to come to the staff meetings and read the employee handbook..."

3. Tell him that you are "too busy working at your old job at the "Quikee Mart" to actually show up for work...but you would like to come by and pick up the Harley uniform and paycheck each week to impress your friends...

Sound ridiculous? It is! Those statements would only be "acceptable" in organized religion...definitely not in the workplace. Sometimes the simplest answer is the best answer...
